Where are most Americans traveling this winter?

It’s a popular time of year for travel, and many Americans are staying close to home, choosing destinations within the United States.

According to data from travel insurance company Allianz Partners, these are the top 10 most popular destinations in the U.S. for travelers right now.

1. New York, NY

New York is the most iconic city in the United States, so it’s no surprise that it’s trending as the number one domestic travel destination right now.

While New York is a year-round city that’s great to visit at any time, the holiday season is one of the most spectacular times to visit (in my opinion as an NYC native!).

Every year, New York’s famous Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade draws millions of spectators, and it’s the official kickoff of the Christmas season in New York. No other city gets quite as decked out as New York does for Christmas, making it a magical, festive time to visit.

Local tip: If you want to save money visiting New York this winter, try to time your trip to be either in early December or in the quieter week after Christmas. Weekdays are also a better time to visit than weekends.

2. Seattle, WA

Seattle has been one of the top trending destinations in the U.S. since this summer, and its popularity does not seem to be waning.

Many tourists visit the beautiful waterfront city of Seattle before departing on one of the many cruises that depart from Seattle, particularly Alaskan cruises.

With the Alaska cruise season ending in October, tourists are still flocking to Seattle to explore its iconic attractions like the Space Needle, Chihuly Garden and Glass Museum, and Pike Place Market.

3. Orlando, FL

Sunny Orlando is another one of the most popular destinations in the United States for travelers right now, and this can mainly be attributed to one thing: theme parks.

Orlando is home to Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando, as well as several smaller theme parks. Theme parks are a huge draw for visitors, and it’s not just families with young children. Millennial and Gen Z adults are the fastest-growing demographic of theme park visitors.

Not into theme parks? Orlando has a lot more to offer as a destination. It’s quickly becoming a foodie destination with tons of great restaurants to try, as well as a vibrant nightlife and entertainment scene.

4. Atlanta, GA

Another popular U.S. destination right now is Atlanta. Many travelers are familiar with Atlanta because it’s home to the busiest airport in the world, Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International. But this Southeastern capital city is a great winter destination in its own right.

The city is home to world-class museums and attractions like the High Museum of Art, the National Center for Civil and Human Rights, the Georgia Aquarium, and the World of Coca-Cola.

Visitors can catch a show at the iconic Fox Theatre, enjoy luxury shopping in the high-end Buckhead neighborhood, or take a stroll through Piedmont Park or the Atlanta Botanical Garden.

5. Boston, MA

Rounding out the top five most popular U.S. destinations is Boston. This historic city, which was founded in 1630, is one of the top destinations in New England.

If you’re interested in early American history, you can’t miss the Freedom Trail in Boston. Made up of 16 historical sites that date back to the colonial and Revolutionary War time periods, this is one of the most fascinating things to explore in Boston.

Of course, there’s a lot more to the city than just history: There’s also sports, museums, entertainment, and food (you can’t leave the city without trying clam chowder and a Boston cream pie.
